Annette became a widow in July 2018 when her husband, Gordon, passed away from colon cancer at the age of 42. With less than a month from diagnosis to death, Annette’s world changed quickly as she became head of the household and a solo parent to two young children.
Through a local church, Annette was put in touch with a fellow widow, Diane, who she formed a special bond with. Diane had also become a young widow with small children at home, and although her children were grown by this point, Annette learned about what life could look like after becoming a widow. Through this friend, she was also introduced to a local organization – Widow Might. Annette attended a couple events and felt so loved, special, and cared for.
A few years later, Annette was made aware that Widow Might was looking for bookkeeping help, and since she had left her corporate job to care for her children and start her own bookkeeping business, she felt that it was God’s nudge to use her accounting background to help an organization that was supporting other widows. In October 2025, Annette was honored to accept a Board position with Widow Might.
Annette married Peter Short in June 2022 at a dreamy Florida beach wedding. She believes God and her late husband, Gordon had a lot to do with bringing them together. She gained not only a wonderful companion and partner, but also became a dog mom for the first time, much to her kids’ delight.
